Financial Information

The Association for Political Theory is a not-for-profit educational association that, since 2010, has been incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and recognized as an educational charity under secion 501 (c)(3) of the federal Internal Revenue Service code. Between 2000 and 2010, the Association was not incorporated. For most of that period, APT functioned officially as a sponsored project of the Colorado College Department of Philosophy, which maintained accounts on the Association's behalf.

Finances are handled by Association's Treasurer, working with the Co-Presidents, under the supervision of the Association’s Governance Committee.  For answers to any questions, you may contact treasurer@apt-us.org.

In accordance with IRS regulations, the Association will make "available for public inspection certain annual returns and applications for exemption, and... provide copies of such returns and applications to individuals who request them."  To obtain copies of such records, send a written request to treasurer@apt-us.org.  The Association will charge $.20 per page plus postage to provide them.  The IRS also makes this information publicly available here.

In accordance with Commonwealth of Massachusetts law, the Association files the proper financial disclosures yearly with the Attorney General's office, where they are available for public inspection.
